Services

Both primary and secondary programs are supplemented by art, library, computers, industrial arts, physical education, health, and social skills training. Speech/language therapy, reading services, occupational therapy, nursing services, and adapted physical education are available when needed.

Since cognitive and emotional factors influence a student's ability to learn, comprehensive counseling programs are an integral part of the Valley Day School curriculum. Our clinical staff consists of a consulting psychiatrist, a school psychologist, a social worker, and a guidance counselor. The counseling program focuses on a student's emotional issues, on developing problem solving skills, and on learning appropriate stress/anger management. Crisis intervention is provided on an as-needed basis.

Valley Day School has specially trained staff members who identify and refer students who are at-risk for, or troubled by, substance abuse and/or mental health problems. Groups meet weekly and have access to community professionals trained in specialties such as drug/alcohol counseling and suicide prevention.

Since a number of students are involved with outside agencies for mental health issues, Valley Day School builds positive relationships with families and agencies. Many interagency meetings arid parent/teacher conferences are held and encouraged throughout the year.
