Career education is integrated at secondary level as a way to transition students from a school setting to a work environment. The transition services program at Valley Day School is a method of training, whereby the student combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training, in a career of their choice. It is a unique plan of education designed to integrate classroom study with planned, supervised, practical work experience. “Learning by Doing” is the key to transition services. It helps students relate schoolwork to actual “Real World” employment. The student workers are transported to and from work in a van provided by Valley Day School during school hours. The transition services program at Valley Day School will assist students in becoming independent, self-sufficient members of the work force and community.
Career Education is also explored through a computer generated interest inventory completed here at Valley Day School. Students have the opportunity to define areas of interest before graduating or moving on to post-secondary education. This inventory is primarily completed the year of expected graduation, when the office of vocational rehabilitation becomes involved with the students
