The Valley Day School organization is governed by an actively involved voluntary Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of thirteen (13) members. When vacancies on the Board arise, the Valley Day School’s Board Nominating Committee recruits new Board members in order to keep the full Board supplied with the diversity, expertise, and leadership needed to successfully fulfill the Board’s responsibilities while continuing to pursue its avowed mission. In addition to participating in meetings of standing and ad hoc working Board Committees, Valley Day School Board members conduct regularly scheduled business meetings of the full Board on the third Wednesday evening of each month except the month of July.
Board Duties and Responsibilities
The Board has complete and final control over all school matters within the framework set by the Pennsylvania State Legislature and Pennsylvania State Board of Education. The Board acts as a legislative body, determining general policies for the programs, care, management, and finance of the school. The Executive Director and his administrative staff are responsible for the execution of these policies.
General Responsibilities
- Set goals and expectations toward the achievement of Valley Day School’s Goals and Objectives
- Approve programs and organizations for achieving these goals
- Secure resources for school operating needs and programs
- Decide how resources will be used
- Review all phases of the school’s operation
- Evaluate general achievements of goals and performance
- Implement educational programs and the needs of students
- Communicate with the parents, community, other educational governing boards, municipal bodies, and legislators
Participants at Board Meetings
A quorum of seven Board members is needed to conduct any official business. However, a majority of the full Board is necessary for most financial and legal actions. In addition to the Board, the Executive Director, Education Director, and other members of the administrative team will be on hand to provide reports and explanations on matters of concern to the Board.
