Welcome from Our Executive Director

Dr. Phillips

Welcome to Valley Day School,

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the staff, I welcome you to explore the Valley Day Community.  Please look around our website at the many programs and services we offer and let us know if we can answer any questions you may have about our school.

The Valley Day School (VDS) is an Approved Private School (APS) licensed by the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Departments of Education and the State Boards of Private School Academies. As a non-profit organization and a resource for families and school districts, we are dedicated to the education and welfare of students (ages 4-21 and in grades K-12+) with histories of acute learning, adjustment, behavioral, and/or emotional needs that are obstacles for achieving success in less restrictive school settings. Valley Day School is a school of choice where, in conjunction with their school district, families and students choose to attend.

As Executive Director, I utilize my years of experience in education as a Special Education Teacher, Principal, Director of Pupil Services, and as a Superintendent of Schools to grow the organization to become a supportive resource for our families and local education agencies that we serve. Our mission at Valley Day School is to teach our students the tools they will need to lead a healthy life.

We work toward meeting our mission by applying advanced training in Trauma-Informed Care through the understanding of the human brain and how it works. We provide more than just academic instruction to our students in reading, writing, and arithmetic. We also work on social skills including interaction with people, establishing and meeting goals, and managing body and brain to make healthy choices. We feel growth in these social emotional areas is as important as the academic instruction we provide to our students.

We provide our students with high-quality, engaging, and positive educational programming and related services that allows them to learn, experience success, learn to regulate their emotions, and come to trust themselves and others. This allows our students to take charge of their lives.

I invite you to contact us for further information and to speak with your school district to schedule a tour of our campus if you feel that Valley Day School might be a good fit for your student.

Best Wishes,

Dr. Robert E. Phillips
